Originating out of the travels of photographer and songwriter Elmer Hawkes, the Worlds Together series provides libraries and schools with an educational overview of some of the world's most remote places.
Examining topics ranging from history and culture to sports and cuisine, the series allows students (both young and old) to examine cultures that are quite a bit different from their own.
"Ethiopia For Kids" (2008- 29 mins)
Narrated by three African children and filmed on location in
Ethiopia, "Ethiopia For Kids" explores northern treasures like
Lalibela and Gonder, the capital, Addis Ababa, and the ancient market town
of Harar. Special attention is paid to the nation's Christian Orthodox
ceremonies and to the Southern Ono Region where forty different languages are
spoken.
"East Africa For Kids" (29 mins)
Narrated by three African children and filmed on location in
East Africa, "East Africa For Kids" explores the Islamic
island of Zanzibar, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Topics covered include
sports, transportation and cuisine. Cities such as Nairobi and Kampala
are highlighted.
"Tibet For Kids" (30 mins)
Narrated by three Tibetan children and filmed on location in
Tibet and Nepal, "Tibet For Kids" explores cities like Lhasa,
Shigatse and Kathmandu, the Mount Everest region and historic
temples such as the Jokhang and Potala. The film also examines
Tibet's monasteries, food, music and the historic invasion by the Chinese.
